Buttery Finger Cookies


I don’t know what it is about these cookies but they are one of my favorite to make around this time of year.  My grandma is the one who would always make them for special occasions and I would go crazy for them.  As the years have gone on she hasn’t made as many cookies, her arthritis has gotten worse in her hands and I am sure that is part of it.  But these cookies will always be grandma’s cookies.


People ask me what they taste like and really I have no explanation except for buttery cookies!  If you compare it to a shortbread cookie recipe it’s the same except for the salt and you don’t refrigerate the dough like you do with shortbread cookies.  They are simple and tasty!  Mine I made a little thicker than I normally would so they spread out a bit more, but they should be about the size of your finger when you roll it out.  Anyway you make them they are good!   And do NOT put the sugar and cinnamon on them until after they bake!

Buttery Finger Cookies

1 c butter
1/2 c sugar
1 tsp Vanilla
1 tsp salt
2 c flour

Topping – mix in a small bowl 1/2 c sugar and 1/4 tsp cinnamon

Preheat to 350.  Cream butter and sugar.  Add Vanilla, Salt and Flour.  Mix well and shape into fingers.  Bake for 15 min.  Cool so you can pick them up and roll in sugar and cinnamon mixture.
